Day 2- "Flagstaff, AZ...Don't Forget Winona"

Hi All, We made it through driving on Day 2.  J. is swimming with the kids and I am telling you what we are doing today.  It's not going to be as easy when I am alone.  :)

Today was not as eventful.  Also, not as many pictures.  We ate breakfast at the hotel and the children took way too much to eat but endeared themselves to the other guests.   We didn't get off as early as we wanted; not until almost 730.   Oh well, we still made good times.   We enjoyed NM for the picturesque nature of it but agreed we would never want to live there, nor vacation.

I think these scenes looked a lot prettier from the car than photographed.  We stopped at some small town McDonalds in NM right before crossing into AZ for lunch.   After going in, notating the new playground for kids, quickly noticed the security guard... that looked nervous.   How many McDonalds have security guards at lunchtime and look nervous?   We took our food to go but this allowed for car fun.  (The children did get to play on the playground while we ordered and received our food.

We had planned to tour the petrified forest. After stopping at the beginning museum and gift shop, we found out it was a 28 min drive one way from start to finish, without stopping at all of the sights they recommend.   We toured the gift shop and saw so many rocks, we did not need to tour the petrified forest!  Bad tourists.

This was $4000!

Emily is our rock collector and was very excited but Benjamin picked out an amethyst that he loved.

We also planned on stopping at this Meteor Crater but then missed the exit.  Oh, well, next time.

We are now at the hotel and plan to go to a German restaurant tonight.  J. is very excited!   Tomorrow we get to LA and I don't know what the kids will do if they don't at least see the beach tomorrow.  (Take note Aunt Nelly Sue.)

  1. Sounds like a great day! Aunt Nellysue has duly noted the need for a beach visit tomorrow. Call or email me tonight or early tomorrow so I know when I need to be home. I'll be out and about running errands 'til then.

  2. LOL! My understanding is that there is more petrified wood *outside* the actual forest then in it! I have never been there either. Bad Arizonan!
